Paid customer now demoted to Lite

I paid $3 for this app a few years back and loved it! Now I open it and im presented with ads, told I own only the Lite version, and get occasional crashes when I look up a word (critical path unreliable?).

I feel ethically slapped. I imagine deep in some clause, theyre legally sound in their actions demoting me. In my gut though, I still feel wronged.
